Children come for the same reasons adults do, but the visit is built differently. The first one is a ride in the chair, a count of the teeth and a sticker. We use sealants on new molars, fluoride varnish twice a year, and treat decay early so a small filling never becomes a big appointment.

What it feels like

Nothing sharp in the first visit unless a child is ready for it. We show every instrument before it goes near a mouth, and we stop when a hand goes up.

How we treat it

First visit around the first birthday or when the first tooth appears, whichever comes first.

Sealants go on permanent molars as soon as they come through, which prevents most of the decay we would otherwise be filling at fifteen.

If a child needs a filling, we do the easiest tooth first so they find out it is boring rather than frightening.

Common questions

When should my child first see a dentist?

By their first birthday. It is mostly a lap visit and a look, and it makes every visit afterwards ordinary.

Do you use nitrous oxide?

Yes, for children who need it, and we talk it through with you first.

Are X-rays safe for kids?

We take them only when we cannot see between the teeth otherwise, and a digital bitewing is a small fraction of a day of background radiation.

What does it cost?

$75 for a child checkup and cleaning, $45 per sealed molar. Most plans cover both in full.
