Crowns & Bridges

Two visits over about two weeks
First visit $89, 60 minutes
When more than half a tooth is gone, a filling has nothing to hold on to. A crown covers what is left and takes the force of chewing. A bridge does the same across a gap, using the teeth either side as anchors. Both are made from porcelain in a lab in Ypsilanti and cemented at a second visit.
What it feels like
The prepared tooth feels smaller and a bit odd under the temporary crown for two weeks. The permanent one feels like a tooth again within a day or two.
How we treat it
First visit: the tooth is numbed and shaped, we take a digital scan, and you leave with a temporary crown that looks like a tooth.
Second visit, about two weeks later: we try the crown in, check the fit and the bite, and cement it.
We photograph the shade against your neighboring teeth so the lab matches it rather than guessing.
Common questions
How long does a crown last?
Ten to fifteen years is normal, longer if you do not grind. A night guard adds years if you do.
Crown or implant?
If there is a healthy root left, crown it. If the tooth has to come out, an implant replaces the whole thing. We show you both prices before you decide.
Does it hurt?
The tooth is numb for the preparation. Afterwards it can be tender for a couple of days, the way any worked-on tooth is.
What does it cost?
$1,150 for a porcelain crown, including both visits and the temporary. A three-unit bridge is $2,950.
